What I mean here is that, in terms of the extremely slow movement of theology (remember that the canon was finalized there are some two thousand years), the majority opinion is a relatively recent innovation. I prefer a distinctly minority position, which is known to many postmillennialism delight. The position postmillennial holds that many of the predictions made in the New Testament, including those of the Olivet discourse (Mt 24, Mk 13, Luke 21), were made at the time of the first Christians, and limit enforcement past events future to be expected. There is a school, represented by, for example, Max and Timothy James King, who wants every prophecy of the entire New Testament was completed during the age of the Church. But , I feel this view neglects a proper consideration of the Apocalypse. Postmillennialism is also sometimes called Preterism, which implies that the text is allowed to speak without exegesis. Thus, when Jesus predicted several times in the UK a generation, I do not write off the statement as an error or an excess of enthusiasm. Instead, I draw up a timetable which shows the UK beginning of a generation after the Crucifixion. Then, when John of Patmos said Millennium starts on that date of commencement of the Kingdom, I go regularly to my table (at the end of this chapter) and set the Thousand Year Clock. It was really a specific date, a generation after the Crucifixion – the turning point of the year 70. It was the historic date of the fall of Jerusalem, which is not a particularly significant date in most mainstream discussions. The date of the first resurrection, in the terminology of John of Patmos, which starts the Millennium. What happened in A. D. 70? After a long siege by the Roman legions, Jerusalem was sacked and razed. In the secular eye, as described by Josephus in the Jewish War in bloody detail, the scene was one of mass destruction that even the temple has been spared. But the spiritual eye, as PAROUSIA Russell showed more than a century ago, these events were the fulfillment of the Olivet Discourse and the return of Jesus and his armies to conquer in the clouds to inaugurate the spiritual reign with the saints and martyrs. Other sources cited in the bibliography which Chilton’s PARADISE RESTORED espouse this view. Chilton designated Jerusalem as the Whore of Babylon and Rome as the Beast. (Note added 2006: In 1986 my schedule that I followed Chilton. I have since reversed my opinion. I now see Rome as the prostitute and Jerusalem as the Beast.) I need to pause a moment to consider the question of the dating of the Apocalypse. The currently accepted date for the appearance of the Book of Apocalypse is AD 95. If the date is right , the realization of the predictions made so far would be a matter of perspective. I recommend the review of John AT Robinson in this issue REDATING THE NEW TESTAMENT. Robinson cites internal and external data to go the date of the Apocalypse, the return schedule of the 70 AD. In addition, he traces the standard AD 95 to back a single source. This source is a statement by Irenaeus that the Apocalypse appeared “to end the reign of Domitian.” This statement is ambiguous and may even be simply incorrect. Other sources cited in the bibliography (including Chilton and James) to accept an earlier date. The Book of the Apocalypse is a significant amplification of the Gospels and Epistles previous. Here the concept of the Millennium is introduced for the first and only time. The timetable presented by John of Patmos extends forward to the day Trial and the future development of the New Jerusalem, thus completing the New Testament Canon. Turning to the Millennium period, lasting approximately a year from 70 to 1070 AD, the starting point was the spiritual event, the parousia, as indicated by Russell and Chilton. But the secular historians looking back at this period as a whole scored it the Dark Ages. More recently, the verdict was tempered by the demonstration of progress and technological developments in the Middle and Far East during these years. But it remains right that, for Western civilization, primarily in Western Europe in those years was an era of unprecedented barbarity and ignorance. In those days the blood of countless martyrs were dumped in the late development of the Roman Empire and the establishment of the Church. Violence was the order of the day and sugarcoating or rose-colored glasses are unnecessary. The First Resurrection is an event of mass destruction and the Kingdom or Millennium has been an era of barbarism. In other words, it is no accident or coincidence that the fulfillment of prophecies are apocalyptic. Instead, it is an vital principle to remember here, since I would note that the trial day will also mass destruction and the New Jerusalem to follow will appear to the uninitiated to the new barbarism. I’ll take these thoughts further in subsequent chapters. Why not start with Day of Reckoning to the year 1070 with the end of the millennium? Historically, many people who lived then did not expect to see the return of the Messiah. I answered instead that it was the date on which Satan was not bound to his season. Here I part company with most of the sources cited in the bibliography. They prefer to see the new millennium as a potentially indefinite period extending thousands of years with Satan loosed his season until shortly before the Second Coming. They see the church again in the millennial period extend and consolidate its gains in the end to convert the world just before Advent. Instead, I maintain that John of Patmos really meant a delay of about a thousand years, Satan has been sowing its evil work. I admit that the season has now lasted nearly a thousand years of its own. One consolation is that this long period is finally on the verge of closing. Satan was very busy with my point of view in recent centuries. Examples of his work would be shameful events like the Renaissance, the Reformation and the Counter-Reformation, the Inquisition, the Enlightenment, the industrial revolution until the contemporary mass movements horrible. I could be accused of being a feudal or obscurantist here. But , I do not look back to the United as a striker for the approaching New Jerusalem. At this point I reckon we reached the low point of the curve down to hell, just before the return of the Messiah. Thus, I teach hellfire and damnation, like most right-wing evangelicals who believe premillennial. But as I said, postmillennialists the bibliography, which are uniformly conservative for the most part, much less emphasis on this aspect. I am also in agreement with the premillennialists in respect of the abduction. Historically, the eighteen centuries removal was taken as essentially simultaneous with the Advent. This is broken down by, among others, MacPherson in the hoax Fantastic RAPTURE and Kimball in the rapture: a question of timing. MacPherson demonstrates that the nineteenth century called Scotch seer Margaret MacDonald, in 1830, introduced the Rapture pretribulational – a temporal separation of the Secret Rapture Second Coming. This introduction was a theological novelty or innovation. MacPherson traces the concept was introduced through the figures of the nineteenth century Darby and Scofield to the evangelists consumer electronics today. I said that I accept the multiple Rapture view, which is a variant of Rapture pretribulational. I agree, based on the work of my sources, that this view has its origin only in the nineteenth century. I’ll clarify why I hold this view in the latter part of Chapter III. I must emphasize that because I take a preterist perspective, I place less emphasis on seeing the events that took place with the first resurrection exactly duplicated on the Day of Reckoning. For example, Nero was clearly the Antichrist for AD 70, but I do not necessarily expect to see a new Antichrist before the Second Coming. If forced, we can choose among candidates of the twentieth century, many for this article. Similarly, I do not expect to see upcoming events occurring in the Jerusalem real this time. I predict that in chapter four, they will most likely start in one of the advanced Western nations. Beginning with the next chapter, I will use the sources, apparently incongruous, such as sources of the left wing of the sixties. I’ll dive in movies and media in general. The sources I will place in place are relevant to the issues of this chapter. So far I have outlined a plausible vision but not the mainstream of Christian eschatology. From this point forward, as promised, expect the point of view presented as “bizarre.” CHAPTER TWO A FIRST LOOK AT Norman O. A superficial reading of his enigmatic, aphoristic style gives this impression. But , the real subject of two of his books, BODY Like (1966) and Closing Time (1973) was religion. Of the two books, Closing Time is now exhausted, but necessary to get a complete picture. With these two books Brown had really solved the mysteries of religion. Am I argue here that if you know these books, you will have all your questions on religion? Yes, it’s really what I claim. Brown did get all the way inside the sanctuary. If you are able to solve puzzles Brown, you will simultaneously solve the mysteries of religion. I say this fully aware that Brown’s erudition makes this monumental task. If I have piqued your curiosity, and you choose to take a look at Brown, the best procedure would be to consider other sources first. Everything is there in the Brown case in plain English, you know , but you may have more success by circling from the periphery. Massive blocks of airtime radio and cable networks are devoted to the sale of Jesus sandwiched between advertisements for soap and cars. A small more discerning, is the thought that television is a boob tube and rock trash is subversive, and exposure to one or two son string May your brain permanently. Is the ultimate goal of producing a race of Mindless, impious giant zombie (the return of “men of renown” of Genesis described by Brown at closing)? This effect keeps us mesmerized by the hour after hour, the flickering images? Softies Why so many of us – practically frozen into stone? What we really look? The answer from Norman O. Brown is that we are witnessing the Primal reproduce Oedipal stage night after night in the endless repetition with slight variations. You object, “I beg your pardon.
